How was someone able to get a copy off of my page?

I have "send link", "right click", and "download original" disabled.  It looks like someone was able to get a digital copy of one of the photos displayed off of my page.  No it's not a screen capture because the copied image is just as good as the original and also was uploaded to Facebook.

Is there some sort of software out there able to extract images hosted here?

Not enough information to tell anything specific. Can you post links to your photo and to the stolen image?

Re: How was someone able to get a copy off of my page?

I am sorry that I cannot post the link because the photos are from a customer.

However, I told this customer that any prints he wanted, he'll have to order it through the cart system.  I also told him that I was not going to release the digital files to him.  So, I did the normal procedure in protecting my files as mentioned in my first post.

When I told him that I wasn't going to release the digital files, his girl friend heard it and laughed at me saying that they can get it anyway.  Well, I thought she was just joking, but apparently not.

This was about 3 months ago.  Then today, when I looked at his Facebook page, he just added some photos in his Facebook that was taken by me hosted in my account in Zenfolio.  I didn't know what to think of this but just felt kind of angry.

So, I was just wondering if someone is able to hack into the security of the photo protection offered by Zenfolio.  Perhaps I should do a Google search.

Anyway, this is what happened, and now I am kind of pissed at him (but I know if he wanted to hack into Zenfolio, that isn't Zenfolio's fault, but still, I can't imagine that it would be this easy).

Oh, forgot to say that I have a Pro account.

And also this could explain why over three months time, not a single person who had access to the hosted page (his friends at the party where I shot the photos) ordered a single print!  And these are not badly shot photos (they loved the photos, according to many of them).  And all this time, they were probably ripping me off with some sort of hack.

I am sorry that I cannot post the link because the photos are from a customer.

Please forward them to Support then. Without this information it is not possible to find out what happened.

It is possible that they did a screen shot of the picture you have online. The degrade in quality would hardly be noticeable. However, this is usually not good enough for high quality print. I would recommend you watermark your pictures to protect yourself if you are afraid of theft. This would make it more troublesome for them.

if a picture is displayed on a website, it can ALWAYS be copied in the resolution and form in which it is displayed.  Part of the game you play.  Retail stores deal with theft, online photo retailers deal with theft.

I would print copies of the pages where the photo(s) are illegally appearing so you have proof before they can be taken down, and then contact your attorney about the issue.  See what he would charge to send them a letter asking them to remove the photos immediately, or they will be fined (about five times what you would have sold them for).  Remember too, with today's technology in every home, that someone buys a single 4x6 print from you, they can scan it and put it on websites with enough quality for web display that it will be fine.  :(

I am new in zenfolio, can you let me know how can you disable the "send link", "right click", and "download original" ?

Also if the customer purchase the picture online, are we suppose to receive a email notification? is the credit card the only method customer can pay for the online purchasing ? if not where can I set up?

    Thanks,

    Mary

Purchasing of digital downloads is the upcoming feature. For now, you can set them up as custom products. When an order is placed, you receive e-mail notification and can arrange payment and e-mailing of the original with the buyer.

You can disable downloading of originals in the Access Control popup available from the Toolbox in Edit View.

You can control what is displayed on your pages in the Customize Visitor View mode, available from the My Zenfolio menu.

Please do not forget to log out when testing your changes to access control, so that you experience your pages the way your visitors would.

Let me offer you a few links that will answer your questions:

Re: How was someone able to get a copy off of my page?

you can and should have your illegally copied pics removed from Facebook and you don't need an attorney to do it. I've had stolen images removed from MySpace and Photobucket; most sites have procedures for this and Facebook does too. Your dishonest customers won't be happy to have the pics removed, but maybe they'll learn something. maybe. But at least they won't be able to have your pics up there. Here's the link to Facebook's copyright policy page. It's a pain, but it works and it's worth the effort.

Re: How was someone able to get a copy off of my page?

Here are a couple of  possible explanations.

1 - Anything that your web browser sees is stored temporarily in the client pc.

2- The app PIcLens allows for  image capture see this post http://forums.zenfolio.com/forums/t/1277.aspx

There are many ways to circumvent so watermark your photos.
