ex: 10 minute video of people surfing in my surfing gallery

yes that would be nice.  it' would be nice to have several formats for that as well.  I use proshow gold for slideshows, and can export several, but I tend to like the flash formatted output the best.  but I know by me using the word 'flash' in these forums, I'm re-opening a can of worms...   :)

Really?! Until there's an accepted and widely adopted web standard for handling video in a browser, I say Flash is as good as it gets. How are the Flash naysayers arguing their case? What is better?

I'm just referring to a very long thread (or threads) some time back discussing the ills of 'flash' on websites... I think it was in regards to slideshows then... but several people dislike flash and started relating the use of it to making zf look like myspace...   I don't want that, just a flash player.  :)

I think H.264 has pretty much became the online video standard these days. For one because of the quality, two because of the support & three because Adobe Flash player now plays it back natively.

    Re: Video Upload

Well, i think someone should reopen this topic, if nothing else because Zenfolio has been very non-committal on this. As far as I know, they have not said yes it may come, or no it wont. They have just left it hanging and don't appear brave enough to make a decision either way yet. Even if they did commit to doing it, their timescales are looooonnng, so it would likely not happen soon unless by some miracle they are already working on it and have not told us....

    Re: Video Upload

I would like to hear the disposition of this feature.  If they'd offer HD video (720p, 1080p--I don't care) in the pro account I'd upgrade.  Even something fairly crude like what Smugmug has would be a good start.  But knowing Zenfolio, they'll do something much more elegant than that (which is great if it doesn't take too long.)

    Re: Video Upload

I am using Zenfolio for unlimited photo storage and I am using Motionbox for unlimited HD Video storage.

It is a bit of a pain to have video and images in different places, because video and images are often taken at the same time. I like them have them organized together.

I am willing to swich to the one that is offering "unlimited" all.

    Thanks

    Erik

I really hope zenfolio adds video soon.  My friend shoots with a 5D Mk2 (as do I) and he is using smugmug and uploading video there too.  I will switch to smugmug if zenfolio doesn't offer video soon.  I suspect there must be others who would do the same.  I much prefer zenfolio to smugmug though!

As a former SmugMug user, video is probably the one thing I miss the most.  I too decided to sign up for MotionBox just to archive off some family video clips, like that I can download the raw m2ts file later if needed and love how it'll just take it straight in from my camera.

I'm not looking to host full length movies, just short clips of the family.  Most people can't sit around and watch more than a minute or two of a single family video anyhow :)

    Agreed!

I just picked up a camera with video capabilities and while I love how zenfolio is able to host all the pics, I've got short clips that I'd love to stick alongside some of those pictures...

Short clips... not movies!!! For that, I'd use youtube or something else, but for short clips... I'd love to be able to post videos on zf!

    Re: Video Upload

Another vote for video uploads here.  I switched from smugmug since I thought zenfolio provided a more professional interface, but I am missing the video capability.  I have a 5d II and it would really be wonderful to post HD videos in some of my galleries or as part of a group of photos.

Another thread mentioned the possibility of embedding videos hosted on other websites - I am currently using Vimeo, and generally like the service - although I have not wanted to go for a "pro" membership there since I hoped that zenfolio or another elegant, professionally-oriented service would offer a good place for both stills and video.

I don't need the capability to post a feature film - maybe 30 minutes maximum?  Most of my videos would be around 5 minutes or less.

More and more cameras are coming out with video capabilities.  I appreciate the focus and attention to detail zenfolio brings to introducing new features and hope video becomes part of the service in the near future.

    Re: Video Upload

Looks as if very shortly anyone that purchases a DSLR will be getting some form of HD video output. This must be recognised by Zenfolio and at least added to the higher end subscriptions. It's a pity that Smugmug are ahead in this because Zenfolio has the better image gallery.

    Re: Video Upload

Here is what I came up with. It's pretty crude but it works for the time being:

    http://photos.gregtakacs.com/p864033460

I basically upload an image to zenfolio, watermark it with the movie clipper to indicate it's a movie, then add the link to the caption which opens up the movie in a new window that I'm hosting on my regular ISP host. I know it's not too fancy but it will keep the family off my back asking for videos and they only have one place to visit.

The other drawback is that the videos that are hosted are not secured with sessions or cookies so in theory anyone who can guess the link will gain access to the movies (one at a time).

    Re: Video Upload

ok zenfolio. you just lost a customer. my friend said he's not going to renew his zenfolio account because why should he when flickr can do photos as well as video. i know people around here don't want video's on a photography site. but why when pro camera's like the canon 1DMKIV has video recording capabilities?! new features here have been slow in coming compared to the likes of smugmug and flickr.
