Password protected images - common password?

    Hello

Here's what I'd like to do (but can't figure out how to):

    • Have a gallery visible to anyone ie public
    • Have selected images in the gallery that are visible only when password entered

    (I can get this far)

    • Have the same password for the protected images and set up so that it only has to be entered once by those trying to access the protected photos for the first protected photo they want to access, not individually for each protected image

(this is the bit that's got me stumped)

Hope it's clear what I want to do - can this be done, if so how? At the moment I have duplicate galleries, one in a public group without the selected photos and the master gallery with all photos in a password protected group. The plan I'm on means I'm not concerned over space, but having two galleries with the same stuff seems wasteful and complicates maintaining it so if there's a way I can achieve the access control I want then I'd like to change to this.

Thank you in advance for your help

    Jon

You can't do this.  Visitors will have to enter the password individually for each image.

Here's the solution that requires the least amount of work:

Create a private gallery and put all of your pictures in it.  Even though the gallery is private, you need to mark all of the pictures as public.

Create a public group with 2 collections inside of it.  One collection is public and one is password protected.  Put each image into the appropriate collection.  All visitors will be able to get into the public collection.  Only visitors who have the password can get into the second collection, but all images will be visible once inside.

Any updates you do to images in the main private gallery of originals will automatically be reflected in the collections.

I have the same need. I did not experiment for now, but I think I will try this:

    - create a password protected group

    - inside this group, create a password protected gallery (with inherited settings)

    - inside this gallery, make some pictures public (but not all)

    - in the home, create a public collection

    - insert in the collection only the public images of the password protected gallery; they should be visible

I think this is the simple solution, but I repeat, I have not tried this for now...

Re: Password protected images - common password?

Ok, I tried this and is working as expected; also, I discovered an interesting thing.

If you put ALL images in the collection (public and password protected), people will have free access to the collection (as the collection itself is public) but will see only the public images; the others have asterisks. The original gallery is hided in a private group and is password protected, so images in this gallery that are password protected inherited the password from the gallery setting (be sure that this is flagged).

Now, when a visitor in the collection insert the correct password for an image, all other images will be unlocked, as they have inherited all the same password.

I think this could be useful, and many thanks to Zenfolio that make the site so powerful and customizable!

Re: Password protected images - common password?

Thanks for the responses! I've given this a quick try and Donni's second suggestion works good and is exactly what I wanted to be able to do: the password is entered for the first protected image only and once done they all are visible.

Also, I've realised that if all the images are given same password they can be selected using the tick box thing and downloaded in one go, with only one password entry. I'd never tried this before: cool. Combined with the viewing protection it looks like I can now set up access how I want.

    Thanks

    Jon
