Hi, I'm very new here and intend to use Zenfolio for our new dot com in place of our current website, once I can get the design right.  Right now our free zenfolio site is very minimal as I work out the design before buying; you can view my web site's current design here at: http://FootholdProductions.com

My question now is mainly just about the header logos here.  I've read other threads but they don't seem to answer exactly what I need to know.  Basically I want to have my custom PNG logo image to appear larger than is currently shown on the zen homepage (closer to the size at my current .com).  I've seen a lot of examples of other people's zen sites with much bigger logos, but can't figure out what I'm missing.  Is the only way to create a custom theme?  I haven't even started tryign to mess with that yet; I was hoping I could just use the adjustments in the theme I'm using from zenfolio.  This is what I've done so far:  http://footholdproductions.zenfolio.com/

Also, I know the homepage header is always different than on every other page, but do the other pages always have to have a black bar at the top, behind the smaller logo and menu options?  I'd rather my background show through with those things laying on top, w/ transparent b/g instead of black.

Well, your current (Zen) logo image is only 290x44px, while Zen accepts up to 910x100px for a large logo in horizontal layouts like yours. Why don't you just use that maximum size? It's not quite as big as on your old site but more than twice the size as currently on your Zen site ...

No. The header can be any color or have a background image as well. To configure it you'll have to finally enter the "Theme Designer", however.

 Thanks for taking a look for me, apparently I didn't explain very well from this end.  The PNG I've designed and uploaded is actually 706 x 107px, but for some reason when uploading it as a custom image that's the small size that appaears instead.  I didn't create it that small or want it to look that way, so I need some help figuring out why it won't come out any bigger.  But since you mentioned the maximum width being 100 perhaps I need to shave off those extra 7 and that would help?

And all the stuff I've been doign so far has definitely been within the Theme Designer already, what I haven't tried is 'creating a custom theme' from scratch.  I'm just adjusting all the things that they let you change in their themes right now.  Where does one take away that black bar at the top of the other pages?

 Oops, I read that wrong, the 100px refers to the height not width. But the thought still applies.

Ah! No, you didn't mention that. O.k., that looks as if the site treats your logo as a vertical one due to the excess height (?!?) and resizes it to the appropriate width of 290 px. Well, try it with exactly 100 px height and see ... Funny behaviour if that's it!

In the "Elements" tab in the Theme Designer select the header bar and adjust it any way you like. You can't make it go away, however, it will always stay a separate area. You can only set it to match the rest of your background.

 Thanks again.  So we tried it with the logo resized to just under the max, and it still looked a lot smaller.  But my husband just determined that the layout otpion we chose seemed to be the culprit, and when he changed the layout to one that centered the logo on top that it showed as the right size.  But that still kinda frustrates me, because I specifically wantd the the logo to left justify up top, and not be centered.  Didn't seem like we should have to pick a different layout, I'm pretty sure I've seen examples of this same layout with left justified larger logos.  So I don't know what's going wrong there.

Any thoughts?

 like to see your answer on this. im looking at the same thing with logo on left. logo is pretty small, especially compared to all the dead space around it, above, below and even left of logo...why not fill it up with the logo!!!

i'd love to see an answer here too... I have the left justified layout, and my logo appears small on the homepage... the other odd part is that it appears large on all the other pages... The PNG I uploaded is 910x60... but shows very small on the home page.

Please help - i'm on a free trial, and if I can't get something this simple figured out, I'm not likely to sign up.

I really don't see how this can still be unclear...

• For the four layouts with the logo above or below the slideshow the logo can be up to 910 px wide and 100 tall. Alignment to the left, right or center doesn't matter and isn't fixed by the layout.
• If the logo is on one side of the slideshow (i.e., sharing the browser width with the slideshow) the maximum width is 290 px, but depending on the menu and other page elements it can be rather tall. If the uploaded file is wider than 290 it's resized to fit the limit.

Yes, Andrew, I realize that's how it's supposed to work, but it doesn't actually work that way.  I appreciate the snarky reply though... what an awesome support forum... Instead of just repeating what the online documentation says, is there any way to get actual troubleshooting from someone who actually knows what's going on?

If you go visit my website you'll see that the logo is ABOVE the slideshow and left justified but it appears small... smaller than 910 px wide, which is what was uploaded... and if you click on a photo it'll take you to a gallery, where the logo appears large...

Now from reading the documentation online, and from your not-very-helpful reply, it SHOULD be full size on the home page. Large logo on the home page, and smaller logo on the other gallery pages.  But it isn't...  That's what we're trying to figure out.

If you have some helpful advice, it'd be great to get a reply, if you are just going to say again that it should work, then don't bother.

If you find the that the online help or these are not helpful then you can always contact support at support@zenfolio.com and they will gladly help you with your troubles. 

Same problem here. Have just created a full size Large Logo. 910 x 100 as recommended. But when I use any of the layouts for the homepage, it appears as a tiny little logo. It clearly states that if the logo is ABOVE the slideshow, it can be a max size of 910x100. But that doesn't happen. I know its possible to do, I've seen another site with a large banner logo. But its not working for me. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Pity nobody here has an answer, as its clearly a recurrent problem, not a one off.

UPDATE - I just stumbled upon the solution. Zenfolio, please change your help pages, they are not much help on this topic. Right, I just wrote I was on Layout B. That includes some menu items to the right of my logo. My logo is above the slideshow, but Zen neglects to tell you that if you have menu items there as well, it will shrink the logo. So, I tried Layout C (no menus - before I had simply hidden the menus). Now I have a full sized logo as I wanted.
