Site feedback - post your site!

    Hey,

I've spent a little(!) while over the last couple days tinkering with my website and changing up a few things. I really love the new homepage.. so much cleaner and more professional! I haven't added a theme as I'm more or less happy with the fine art theme but have reorganized things. Anyway, I'd love some feedback on the appearance/organization/usability, as would many of you I'm sure so post your link!

    Mine is here

PS The 'About/Contact' page still needs to have some info added and a new headshot so ignore that content..

Hi, Holly.  I took a very similar approach with my first pass.  So I think what you have done is great! Smile

I think simple is probably a good way to go.  My site is here.  As with your site, the "about" section needs some work in mine.  Obviously I might tweek this over time, but the new options make for a much more professional look.

Nice idea for a thread! Mine is here: www.timeflight.co.uk I can't stop tinkering with the new features.

Feel free to leave a comment or two on the site, I've not had any yet :(

Some really cool stuff here! @retroimages - NICE! Great idea to add a link to your stock. I was trying to think of a way to put a site tab to "Stock Photography" and then have a page come up similar to the galleries, but not quite sure how to accomplish that. In the meantime, I'll have to settle on one, probably Dreamstime.  Right now, I have a fairly simplistic setup. Can't get my logo the way I want it, so just going with the simple handwriting type of style until I figure it out. I can't get the size right. Here's mine:

    Great homepages everyone!

A couple of suggestions that more or less apply to all three..

    - go through the options in customization and figure out if you really need to have all of the extra details showing up there (ie date uploaded, pageviews, image overlay icons, etc). Maybe you've already done so and have decided you need many of them.. for me at least, I've switched off just about as many as I can in order to reduce the amount of unnecessary info

    - Make sure your homepage slideshow loops.. I opened all three of your websites at once and by the time I got to the last website it was just displaying a white box and I had to hit refresh to see the slideshow

    - Make sure that the fonts you use are consistent throughout

Carolyn, I'd suggest moving the 'note: ...' paragraph on your homepage to below your welcome message

    Beautiful photos, everyone!

    • Actually, the "Note" had been standing out to me, but wasn't sure what I was going to do with it. Moving it to the bottom makes sense.
    • I do have my slideshow on loop. Was it not looping for you?
    • I totally agree with all the extra stuff. I eliminated most of it, but I'll go back and see if I overlooked anything.

Thanks, Holly! I appreciate the input.

Re: Site feedback - post your site!

Thanks for starting this thread - it will help us all experiment and learn from each other.  I love the simplicy of your sites - nice work to everyone who has jumped in with the new Zenfolio tools.  Kudos to Zenfolio for bringing this all to reality - the customization (and relative ease of doing so) makes me feel like I have a "real" web site.

OK - to my question/problem.  Can any of you please link to my site and look at the "Contact" page.  I can't figure out out to get my own Name (D. Host Photography) and E-mail address OUT OF THE CONTACT BOX.  I want my prospects to fill in THEIR info in that box...I must have something set as it insists on populating MY info in that box. I've tried taking it out in my "contact" info and then it disappears from the info on the left side.  What am I doing wrong?

Thanks, too, for any other critiques you can provide of the new look.  Took a bit of putzing to get the home page header and slide show the way I wanted and I have more tinkering to do on the About and Home pages, still...but it's a good start.

    thanks much!

I just answered my own question.  LOG out of Zenfolio (your own site) and then it clears the form.

Would still love any feedback on the rest of my site if you're able.  Thanks!

Re: Site feedback - post your site!

Dennis, I took a look at your site.. as I mentioned before I'd go through and see what of the options you do or don't need (ie gallery overlay icons, date modified, etc) and eliminate what you don't need to reduce clutter. The second thing I noticed was that you your welcome message and contact info below your slideshow.. I don't think most people will think to scroll down below the slideshow to read that (unless they're a zenfolio user and know there might be something there) and will just start navigating through the top menu. And lastly, I'd remove the 'all photographs' breadcrumbs option on your page, as I clicked it and was suddenly confused about where I was and what I should be looking at.. or you should at least put photos over the folder icons..

Carolyn, it seems to be looping now.. perhaps it was just a little glitch before

     Hi all,

Great idea for a thread and thought I would throw my attempt in!Confused

I had a stab at making a homepage and then tried creating a theme which I have used for the Portfolio gallery but not sure at all if I like it? or to just use a "slightly" modified fine art as in the models gallery?

Superb sites from this thread so far!! Brilliant

Re: Site feedback - post your site!

I'm still trying some things out and may redesign the logo. Can't figure out why all the menu items aren't showing up and when I had "all photos" on the homepage, they also would only extend the width of the slideshow. I've removed the "all photos" for now.

Re: Site feedback - post your site!

I'm still tinkering with mine and I'm fairly happy with it. I think it may be a little busy compared to the  minimalistic but beautiful sites you all have.

    Mine is here...

I would love to have feedback at jeff.foliage@gmail.com but I'll check back from time to time to see if any comments pop up...

To me the biggest thing is making sure the customer/visitor can navigate easily... I left the bread trail intact for the gallery since it has so many levels...

     Thoughts?
